【現地レポート】岩佐歩夢、P9から掴んだP2。厳しいコンディションを乗り越え、次なる富士へ

2026年8月8日（土）〜9日（日）、宮城県のスポーツランドSUGOにて、2026年全日本スーパーフォーミュラ選手権 第8戦が開催されました。

今季前半戦を締めくくるSUGO大会。

岩佐歩夢選手にとっては、シーズンを通して課題となっているコンディションへのアジャストに再び苦しめられる週末となりましたが、決勝では予選9番手から見事な追い上げを披露。

最後は優勝争いにまで食い込み、2位表彰台を獲得しました。

From August 8 to 9, 2026, Round 8 of the 2026 All-Japan Super Formula Championship was held at Sportsland SUGO in Miyagi Prefecture.

The SUGO round marked the final race of the first half of the season.

For Ayumu Iwasa, it was once again a challenging weekend, as he struggled to adapt the car to constantly changing conditions—an issue he has been working to overcome throughout the season.

However, in the race, Iwasa produced an impressive recovery drive from ninth on the grid, fighting his way through the field and eventually joining the battle for victory.

He crossed the finish line in second place to secure a hard-earned podium.

【シリーズ第五弾 岩佐歩夢選手が語る：スポーツランドSUGO】

「スポーツランドSUGOのおすすめ注目ポイントは最終セクターです。馬の背コーナーの後、最後の３つのコーナーは特徴的で難しいです。特にSPコーナーと呼ばれる２つのコーナーは、世界で見ても非常にチャレンジングなコーナーです。少しはみ出したり、ミスをしてしまうと、一気にクラッシュしてしまうエスケープの無いレイアウトになっています。ドライバーからすると本当にチャレンジングで、攻めたい、攻めなければ速く走れない、ただ攻め過ぎるとリスクがかなり大きい。また、最終コーナーでは、スーパーフォーミュラはアクセル全開で曲がっていけないですが、限りなく全開に近い状態で曲がれるかどうか、車のセッティングが決まっていないといけないですし、かつドライバーの気合一発みたいなところもあります。国内の中でもこのSUGOのサーキット、特に最後の３つのコーナーはかなりチャレンジングでリスキーなので、見ている方々にとっても非常に見ごたえのあるセクションだと思います。」

【Part 5 of the Series: Ayumu Iwasa Talks About Sportsland SUGO】

JALOX is presenting an exclusive series of circuit guides featuring driver Ayumu Iwasa himself.

"My top recommendation to watch out for at Sportsland SUGO is the final sector. After the Horseback Corner (Umanose), the last three corners are distinctive and difficult. In particular, the two corners known as the SP Corners are extremely challenging by global standards. The layout features no run-off areas, meaning that running slightly wide or making a single mistake will result in an immediate crash. For drivers, it is genuinely challenging—you want to push, and you have to push to be fast, but pushing too much carries a huge amount of risk. Also, at the final corner, Super Formula cars cannot take it flat-out, but whether you can navigate it at near-flat-out speeds depends not only on getting the car's setup right, but also on sheer driver grit. Among all the circuits in Japan, SUGO—especially its final three corners—is quite challenging and risky, making it a tremendously exciting section for spectators to watch."

【変わり続けるコンディション。難しいアジャスト】

今回のSUGO大会は、週末を通して湿度の高いコンディションとなりました。

午前中は気温・路温ともに高く、午後になると雲が広がり、気温・路温ともに低下。

予選では降雨も心配される状況となり、刻々と変化するコンディションの中で、マシンを最適な状態へアジャストすることが求められました。

実際、土曜日午後の予選は、午前中の暑さから一転して雲が広がり、気温が低下する中で行われました。

決勝でも途中から小雨が降り始めるなど、最後まで不安定な空模様が続きました。

こうした天候や路面コンディションの変化へのアジャストは、今シーズンを通して岩佐選手が向き合ってきた課題のひとつ。

今回のSUGOでも、その難しさが岩佐選手の前に立ちはだかることとなりました。

【Changing Conditions Make Car Set-Up Difficult】

Throughout the SUGO weekend, conditions remained hot and humid.

Temperatures and track temperatures were high during the morning, while clouds began to gather in the afternoon, bringing a drop in both air and track temperatures.

Rain was also a possibility during qualifying, making it increasingly difficult for the drivers and teams to find the optimum set-up as conditions changed from moment to moment.

Saturday afternoon's qualifying session was held under significantly cooler conditions than the hot morning, with clouds covering the circuit and temperatures falling.

Even during the race, light rain began to fall at one point, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already demanding weekend.

Adapting to changes in weather and track conditions has been one of the challenges Iwasa has faced throughout the 2026 season.

At SUGO, that challenge once again proved to be a significant obstacle.

【野尻智紀選手、見事なスーパーポール】

予選は今季のオートポリス大会と同じく、Q3まで行われる3ステージ制のフォーマットで実施。

最後は5人のドライバーによるポールポジション争い「スーパーポール」へと進みました。

岩佐選手は9番手で予選を終えることとなりました。

一方、TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACSにとっては、大きな見せ場となりました。

チームメイトの野尻智紀選手が、最終5人によるスーパーポールで見事なアタックを披露。

変化するコンディションの中でも果敢に攻め、最後のアタックを見事にまとめ上げ、ポールポジションを獲得しました。

さらに、今回のスーパーポール獲得によって、野尻選手は賞金100万円も獲得。

TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACSとしても、チームの高い競争力を示す大きな成果となりました。

岩佐選手にとっては厳しい予選となった一方、チームとしてはポールポジションを手にして、決勝へと臨むことになりました。

【Tomoki Nojiri Delivers a Superb Super Pole Performance】

As at the Autopolis round earlier this season, qualifying at SUGO was held in a three-stage format through Q3.

The final five drivers then advanced to the Super Pole shootout for pole position.

Iwasa ended qualifying in ninth place.

For TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS, however, there was a major highlight.

Iwasa's teammate, Tomoki Nojiri, delivered a superb final attack in the Super Pole session.

Despite the constantly changing conditions, Nojiri pushed hard and put together an outstanding final lap to secure pole position.

His Super Pole performance also earned him one million yen prize.

For TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS, it was another strong demonstration of the team's competitiveness.

While Iwasa faced a difficult qualifying session, the team secured pole position and headed into Sunday's race with both drivers aiming for a strong result.

【P9から始まった反撃】

決勝、岩佐選手は9番グリッドからスタート。

決して理想的なポジションではありませんでした。

しかし、スタート直後から岩佐選手は積極的な走りを見せ、2周目までに7番手へ浮上。

そこからさらに上位を目指しながら、レースを進めていきます。

レース中盤、ピットウインドウが開く中でも、岩佐選手はステイアウトを選択。

そして27周目、複数台のマシンがコース上でストップしたことをきっかけに、セーフティカーが導入されました。

ここでレースの流れが大きく動きます。

ステイアウトしていた岩佐選手と福住仁嶺選手は、セーフティカー導入時に前方を走行。

その後のピットインによって、岩佐選手は一気に上位へと浮上しました。

そして気がつけば、9番グリッドからスタートした岩佐選手が、優勝を争うポジションにまでたどり着いていました。

ここから、レースはさらに激しさを増していきます。

【The Fightback Begins from P9】

Iwasa started the race from ninth on the grid.

It was far from the ideal starting position.

But from the very beginning, he showed strong pace and determination.

By the second lap, Iwasa had already moved up to seventh.

From there, he continued to look for opportunities to climb further up the order.

As the pit window opened in the middle stages of the race, Iwasa opted to stay out on track.

Then, on Lap 27, several cars stopped on the circuit, prompting the deployment of the Safety Car.

This dramatically changed the complexion of the race.

Iwasa and Nirei Fukuzumi, who had both remained on track, found themselves running near the front when the Safety Car was deployed.

Following their subsequent pit stops, Iwasa emerged in a much higher position.

Before long, the driver who had started ninth was suddenly right in the middle of the fight for victory.

And from there, the race became even more intense.

【最後まで譲らなかったトップ争い】

レース終盤、トップを走る福住仁嶺選手を追う岩佐選手。

さらにその後方にはイゴール・オオムラ・フラガ選手が迫り、3台による激しいトップ争いが繰り広げられました。

レース再開後は、3台がオーバーテイクシステムを使いながら互いにプレッシャーをかけ合う展開に。

さらにコース上では小雨も交じり、最後まで緊張感の途切れないレースとなりました。

誰もが限界のところでマシンをコントロールしながら、レースは最終ラップへ。

岩佐選手も最後まで優勝を狙い続けました。

しかし、福住選手が最後までポジションを守り切り、岩佐選手との差わずか0.505秒でチェッカー。

岩佐選手は2位でフィニッシュし、見事表彰台を獲得しました。

【A Fierce Battle for Victory to the Very End】

In the closing stages, Iwasa chased race leader Nirei Fukuzumi.

Behind them, Igor Omura Fraga was also closing in, creating a thrilling three-way battle at the front.

After the restart, all three drivers used their overtake systems aggressively, applying constant pressure to one another.

Light rain also began to fall on parts of the circuit, making the final stages even more challenging.

With all three drivers pushing their cars to the limit, the race entered its final lap.

Iwasa continued to fight for the win until the very end.

However, Fukuzumi managed to hold onto the lead and crossed the finish line just 0.505 seconds ahead of Iwasa.

Iwasa finished second, securing a hard-fought podium finish.

【「P9 → P2」――厳しい週末で掴んだ表彰台】

今回のSUGO大会で岩佐選手が見せたのは、単なる「2位」という結果だけではありません。

予選9番手から、決勝2位。

7つポジションを上げ、最後には優勝争いの最前線までたどり着きました。

コンディションへのアジャストに苦しんだ予選から一夜明け、決勝では序盤からポジションを上げ、さらにレース中盤のセーフティカーとピット戦略によってトップ争いへ浮上。

そこからは福住選手、フラガ選手との激しい攻防を最後まで戦い抜きました。

優勝にはあと一歩届かなかったものの、厳しい状況から這い上がって手にした今回のP2は、シーズン後半戦へ向けても大きな意味を持つ結果となりました。

また、チームメイトの野尻選手も5位でフィニッシュ。

予選ではスーパーポールを獲得し、決勝ではTEAM MUGEN AUTOBACSの2台がトップ5に入るなど、チームとしても重要なポイントを積み重ねることができました。

【“P9 → P2” — A Podium Earned Through a Difficult Weekend】

Iwasa's SUGO result was about much more than simply finishing second.

Starting from ninth on the grid, he climbed seven positions to finish P2, fighting his way all the way into the battle for victory.

After struggling to find the optimum balance in qualifying, Iwasa fought back in the race, gaining positions from the opening laps before the Safety Car and pit-stop strategy brought him into contention at the front.

From there, he fought all the way to the finish against Fukuzumi and Fraga in an intense battle for the win.

Victory ultimately remained just out of reach, but the P2 finish—earned after starting from such a difficult position—was a significant result as the season heads into its second half.

Teammate Tomoki Nojiri also finished inside the top five in fifth place.

With Nojiri taking pole position in qualifying and both TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS cars finishing in the top five, the team also secured valuable championship points from an important weekend.

【次戦・富士大会へ】

フリー走行、そして予選と、天候や路面コンディションの変化にアジャストする難しさは、今シーズンを通しての課題として、今回のSUGO大会でも変わらず残りました。

それでも、厳しい週末の中で岩佐歩夢選手とTEAM MUGEN AUTOBACSが最後まで戦い抜き、引き寄せたP2フィニッシュ。

この結果が、今シーズン残された課題を乗り越え、さらに一歩前へ進むためのきっかけとなることを期待しています。

次戦は、約2か月後の富士スピードウェイ。

今季ここまで積み重ねてきた経験と、SUGOで掴んだ手応えを胸に、岩佐選手とTEAM MUGEN AUTOBACSは再び戦いの舞台へ向かいます。

サマーブレイクを経て、さらに強くなった岩佐歩夢選手の走りに期待しましょう。

【Next Stop: Fuji Speedway】

The difficulty of adapting to changing weather and track conditions remained one of the key challenges throughout the SUGO weekend, as it has been throughout the season.

Nevertheless, Iwasa and TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS continued to fight until the very end and came away with a hard-earned P2 finish.

We hope this result will provide an important step forward as Iwasa continues to overcome the challenges he has faced this season and takes another step toward the front.

The next stop is Fuji Speedway, approximately two months from now.

With the experience accumulated throughout the season and the momentum gained from SUGO, Iwasa and TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS will return to the track ready for the next chapter of the championship.

After the summer break, we look forward to seeing an even stronger Ayumu Iwasa back in action.
