TEAM MUGEN

Competing in the Super Formula Championship since 2024 with TEAM MUGEN, Ayumu Iwasa achieved outstanding results in his rookie season, including being named Rookie of the Year. The following year, in only his second season in Super Formula, he went on to claim the Drivers’ Championship.

However, this remarkable achievement was not due to Iwasa’s talent alone. In 2025, TEAM MUGEN was led by Team Director Hirokatsu Tanaka, along with Chief Engineer Tomohiko Koike, who served as Iwasa’s race engineer, and a highly skilled group of five mechanics. Together, they meticulously prepared and refined the No.15 car driven by Iwasa, transforming it into a machine capable of delivering results at the highest level of competition.

At first glance, Super Formula racing may appear to be simply machines running at incredible speed. In reality, however, achieving that speed is extremely challenging. From machine setups based on aerodynamic theory to precise control of tire temperature and air pressure, even a difference of 0.01 millimeters or 0.1 degrees Celsius can disrupt the balance of the car. For this reason, Super Formula engineers and mechanics must possess exceptional technical skills and utilize vast amounts of data in order to produce winning performance at every race. Racing success is therefore never achieved by the driver alone.

Only when TEAM MUGEN’s outstanding technical capabilities bring the machine to its absolute peak condition—and when that performance is matched with Iwasa’s exceptional driving ability—can a championship be won. Super Formula is truly a deeply complex sport in which the entire team must work together to compete for victories measured in thousandths of a second.

Amid this highly demanding world of Super Formula racing, TEAM MUGEN achieved an impressive result in 2025, finishing second in the Team Championship standings.

In April 2026, with renewed determination, Ayumu Iwasa returns to the Super Formula Championship as the reigning champion. Together with the entire TEAM MUGEN organization, he will once again aim for the overall series championship.
